Lecture by Fr Anselm Grün, OSB

As part of the 6th Week of Silence in Karlsruhe, the House of Competence (HoC) invited Benedictine Father Anselm Grün to the KIT. With his expertise and experience, he focussed the participants’ awareness on their ability to develop an attitude of silence. It is only in silence that we are able to encounter ourselves, which is why Father Anselm focussed his lecture on the topic of how we are able to lead others through active self-leadership. Self-leadership begins with entering into a relationship with oneself. Through meditation, reflection and silence, we can confront the inner images that may be distorting our view of our work. Under the heading of good leadership, an attitude is developed that counteracts inner inhibitions and blockages, enabling us to realise our full potential. In long-standing cooperation with the Benedictine Abbey of Münsterschwarzach, where Father Anselm lives, the HoC offers courses in the abbey to provide training outside the university context and to provide impetus for humane leadership. The lecture struck a chord, as the packed lecture theatre made it clear that the people attending were looking for new solutions to meet the demands of a modern working world.
