Registration procedure

Type of event SEMINAR (S/B)

How can I take part in a HoC seminar?

There are three ways to get a place on a HoC seminar:

Option 1: Lottery

Want to play it safe when planning your semester?

Then you can take part in a virtual lottery for the allocation of seminar places.

You can select a maximum of three seminars from the Hoc event programme and register for them during the registration period (mid-April/mid-October). Personalised lots are then generated for the selected seminars.

During the lottery for the allocation of places (a few days after registration), it is possible that one or more of the lots will be drawn. In this case, participation in the corresponding seminar is guaranteed. You will be informed automatically by e-mail if you are accepted.

Please note: You must arrive on time for the seminar, otherwise your place will be forfeited and made available to other students as a wildcard.

If the lottery does not result in a seminar place, there are still options 2 and 3.

Option 2: Direct allocation of remaining places

Missed the registration period or had bad luck?

Spontaneously decided in favour of a seminar at the HoC?

Then you can go to the HoC website to find out which seminars are not yet fully booked after the draw (or whether places are currently available in a seminar) and register for one of them. The remaining places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. Registration for the seminar will then be confirmed by e-mail and participation is guaranteed. Again, please note that you must be on time for the first date of the seminar, otherwise your place will be forfeited and made available to other students as a wild card.

Option 3: Wildcard

Coming to the seminar spontaneously?

Then, in addition to the registration options described above (lottery and direct allocation of remaining places), there is also the wildcard option. This means that places that have not arrived (on time) or are still free at the start of the seminar will be allocated. You can simply turn up on time for the start of the seminar and, with a bit of luck, get a place in the seminar. If there are more wildcard applicants than free places at the start of the seminar, the free places will be allocated by lottery directly on site.

Type of event DAY WORKSHOP (TW)

How can I take part in a HoC one-day workshop?

There are two ways to get a place on a HoC day workshop:

Option 1: Direct allocation of places by registration

Want to play it safe when planning your semester?

You can secure a place for a one-day workshop by registering for the selected workshop(s) (registration possible up to approx. 1 week before the start). Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. Registration for the workshop will then be confirmed by e-mail and participation is guaranteed.

Please note: You must arrive punctually for the one-day workshop, otherwise your place will be forfeited and made available to other students as a wildcard.

If the registration period has already expired, you may still be able to take part in a workshop via option 2 (Wildcard).

Option 2: Wildcard

Spontaneously coming to the one-day workshop?

Then, in addition to the direct registration option described above, there is also the wildcard option. This means that places that have not arrived (on time) or are still free at the start of the day workshop will be allocated. You can simply turn up on time for the start of the workshop and, with a bit of luck, get a place. If there are more wildcard applicants than free places at the start of the workshop, the free places will be allocated by lottery directly on site.
