By volunteering with an organization of your choice and interacting with international students from EPICUR universities, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of societal needs in different European regions.
Join this service-learning seminar to explore the important role of civil society actors and their impact on tackling today’s global issues. Reflective practice will be key to sharpening your inner skills and promoting lifelong learning.
This seminar comprises the following elements:
Learning: Learn about the role of civil society actors in real-life contexts and how civic engagement contributes to lifelong learning and employability
Acting: Civic engagement including min. 30 hours in an organization of your choice, e.g., associations, student organizations, schools, community initiatives, nursing homes, etc.
Reflecting: Develop essential skills such as openness, critical thinking, empathy and self-awareness and consciously perceive the newly acquired skills
Workload for ECTS:
3 ECTS:
Active participation in both preparatory online meetings
At least 30 hours of civic engagement in an organization of your choice
Logbook entries during the engagement
Participation in the online reflection meeting
Lecturers:
Vladana: Working with diverse backgrounds of lifelong learners in higher education, I have learned the importance of holistic pedagogical approach such as transformative education. In this kind of learning environment, I have seen among the student’s increased awareness of the future challenges, active and motivated dialogues and increased critical thinking. I would like to motivate and encourage students to adopt innovative thinking, to refine decision-making abilities, to increase problem solving skills and to foster empathy.
Hoai: When working with civil society actors, I learnt about the enormous impact of their commitment and that dialogue between the various groups within our community can bring about positive change. I would like to motivate students to volunteer because the interaction with their local communities can significantly contribute to their personal growth.
