Life is full of challenges, some of which we master better, others worse. When we fall short of our expectations or something goes wrong (through no fault of our own), we often take refuge in scathing self-criticism or try not to let our failures and the associated pain get to us in the first place.
But how can we get in touch with our pain, observe it and respond to it with kindness and understanding instead of facing difficult feelings with fierce resistance?
The alternative to the program we are familiar with is called self-compassion! Self-compassion is the ability to treat ourselves lovingly, especially when we are feeling bad. Cultivating self-compassion helps us to make friends with the most important person in our lives: ourselves.
In this five-module online course, we will explore the principle of self-compassion and discuss it online over three sessions. As self-compassion needs to be discovered and practiced individually, the modules will be supplemented with exercises and guided meditations. Content must be worked on before the first meeting. The course concludes with a reflection meeting in presence at the Stadtkloster Karlsruhe.
++ The time for the face-to-face meeting on 24.07.25 will be determined together at the first meeting. ++
Workload for ECTS:
1 ECTS: Active participation in the Zoom sessions as well as
- e-learning parts (module 1 – 5),
- Preparation and follow-up of the individual modules,
- Carrying out the exercises and meditations recommended in the workshop,
- Participation in the reflection meeting (at the Stadtkloster Karlsruhe).
Lecturer:
Laila Kolsch is an educator and director of the Perspectives Lab at the HoC. She wants to offer students opportunities for change, reflection, knowledge acquisition and development. To this end, she deals with topics that are relevant to her own life. The practice of self-compassion became an important building block on her path to a loving relationship with herself. She would like to offer students an introduction to this topic with this course.
