Being alone has long since become the norm for many people—at university, in everyday life, online. But real change, whether small or large, rarely begins alone. Studies show that fulfilling relationships and community make us healthier, more creative, more capable of action, and even more democratic—and help us live longer.
In this workshop, we explore why connectedness is more than just “being nice to each other”: it is key to personal development, meaning, self-efficacy, and social participation.
Together, we question patterns of thinking about loneliness, analyze which relationships strengthen us, and develop concrete strategies for creating connections with other people through encounters and conversations.
The content of the workshop is based on the book “Together. Why we need allies for a good life – and how to find them” by Ronja von Wurmb-Seibel. The author will accompany the workshop days with her own input and will be connected online.

Sofie Decker’s work at the House of Competence’s Perspectives Lab focuses on scope for action: for shaping the working world of tomorrow, for meaningful and value-oriented action, and for good leadership as a conscious attitude toward oneself and others. She considers the formation of relationships and the experience of connectedness to be central components of personal and social development.
Bestselling author Ronja von Wurmb-Seibel knows from her work as a journalist how powerful news can be. She lived in Kabul for almost two years as a reporter. There, surrounded by bad news, she learned to tell stories in a way that inspires courage.
