Overview/Objectives:

The seminar offers an insight into the normative phonetics of Standard/High German so that you will be able to speak – depending on the context – without dialect or accent. We will also address phonation for precise articulation so that you can optimize your intelligibility.

 

Contents:

  • (Foreign) language as a social function
  • Meaning and history of pronunciation variations
  • Dialects, sociolects, accents
  • Phonetics of all German sounds
  • Phonetic formation
  • Pronunciation rules (e.g. ig-rule, R-realization…)
  • Anatomy of the articulation organs
  • Articulation precision
  • Relationship between articulation and voice
  • Speech tempo, phrasing and accentuation
  • Influence of age and pathological peculiarities

  • individual one-on-one training

  • group discussion
  • analysis of listening examples and participants

 

Prerequisite for participation:

none

 

Workload for ECTS:

1 ECTS: active participation + recording of a text in standard German pronunciation.

 

Lecturer:

Fabian Eckenfels is a graduate speech scientist, scientific research and doctorate on voice, trainer for speaking/voice/vocal/body/text, as well as yoga/fitness trainer.
