Some students find it difficult to imagine taking on management tasks later on. But that will happen! This makes it all the more important to gain access to leadership in a fun and exciting way. In KIT’s anniversary year, we are offering an extraordinary opportunity to do this: this excursion seminar will take us to the Landsberg am Lech glider airfield for two and a half days, where we will try out together what good self- and team leadership is all about.
Safe and smooth flying not only places high demands on the quality of processes and procedures, but also on good and responsible leadership. The cooperation of cockpit crews in particular requires a high standard of attitude, mindset and discipline for everyone involved: appreciation and trust, clear communication as well as level-headedness and solution orientation are essential building blocks of good “airmanship”. In the seminar, we will experience these building blocks in a very practical way – both outside and inside the cockpit. The experience gained will be supplemented by content-related impulses on selected leadership models, group work and offers for self-reflection. The mix of self-awareness and theoretical input should enable participants to apply what they have learned in both simulated and real leadership situations.

The specific learning objectives include:

  • Structured problem solving and decision making: Participants should learn to organize themselves successfully in unfamiliar territory, solve problems in a structured and goal-oriented manner and make good decisions.
  • Goal orientation: Participants should develop the ability to clearly define and prioritize goals and develop methods for achieving goals that are forward-looking, resource-conserving and solution-oriented.
  • Communication skills: Participants should develop the ability to communicate precisely and clearly in order to ensure clarity and orientation, especially in confusing situations.
  • Teamwork: Participants should learn how to develop a positive team culture characterized by trust, appreciation and a constructive error culture.
  • Motivational skills: Participants should recognize the importance of enthusiasm, passion and inspiration as a source of motivation and learn how to use these qualities in challenging leadership situations.
  • Reflection and self-awareness: Participants should reflect on their own leadership styles and skills and develop an awareness of their strengths and weaknesses.
