“Digital Democracy Camp” – Your chance to help shape the digital future!

Are you interested in current issues related to digital democracy and eager to take part in the discussion? Have you always wanted to learn how digital tools can enhance participation, transparency, and co-determination – and what challenges and opportunities come with them?

Then the Digital Democracy Camp is the right place for you! Through exchange between students, experts, and other participants, we will jointly develop ideas on how digital participation can help shape the democracy of tomorrow.

The camp kicks off on Thursday afternoon with a joint welcome session, an introduction to the topic, and an inspiring input on discussion and debate culture. Afterwards, we will work together on initial topics and discuss them – including in conversation with a member of the KIT Executive Board, who will share insights into current participation processes.

On Friday, the focus will be on a student project (Institute of Information Systems – WIN) that explores ways to strengthen participation opportunities for students. Various digital tools will be presented, demonstrating how e-participation can enhance transparency and inclusion. In interactive sessions at topic tables, you can experience first-hand how such platforms can be designed and what role user experience (UX) plays in successful participation.

At the heart of the Digital Democracy Camp lies the theme of e-participation – exploring how digital engagement can make our democracy more open, inclusive, and future-oriented.

Sign up now and become part of an active community that is shaping the digital democracy of tomorrow!

Lecturer:

Sarah Herrmann is a cultural scientist. Her love of data and surveys developed during her studies (EUKliD/ minor in sociology) and was reinforced by her work in the methods laboratory of the House of Competence. With parallel further training as a systemic consultant, she also works as a coach in various contexts. She is currently working as a research assistant at the interface of the House of Competence (HOC) and the quality management of the KIT on the conception of a data literacy module “survey@kit” for students in the field of surveys.

Michael Mäs is a proud sociologist. His research deals with complex systems such as social networks on the Internet, which he investigates using formal approaches and quantitative methods of social research (surveys, network analysis, laboratory and field experiments). He publishes in the fields of sociology, economics, physics, biology and computer science, among others.

Alexa Maria Kunz: A sociologist with a penchant for empirical, especially qualitative research, she focuses on student lifeworlds, interdisciplinary education and university organization. Thanks to interdisciplinary and participative projects, she is familiar with different working cultures. According to the motto “knowledge increases when it is shared”, she is looking forward to interactive events about (qualitative) research and the question of how collaboration can succeed and projects can be enjoyable. At the HoC, she heads the methods lab and is deputy managing director.
