Whether in product and software development, urban planning, participatory construction projects or organizational development, qualitative research (QR) is always helpful when it comes to understanding people’s needs, motives and contexts. This is why qualitative approaches are also used in numerous disciplines beyond the social sciences. There are a wide variety of survey and analysis methods and research approaches, of which interviews, focus groups, qualitative content analysis, ethnography and grounded theory are just the best known.
The one-day workshop “Data Literacy: Introduction to Qualitative Research” is aimed at KIT students of all subjects who want to get to know this specific type of data and knowledge production and acquire initial basic knowledge in the field of qualitative research.
The course deals with central epistemological principles, diverse methods of data collection and analysis as well as quality criteria, research ethics and research data management. Theoretical impulses are combined with sample studies and practical exercises.
After the course
- you will be familiar with the methodological foundations of QF
- have an overview of the areas of application and central methods of QF;
- know the quality criteria of qualitative research;
- have a first impression of data from qualitative research and its specifics;
- know basic aspects of good scientific practice and research data management as well as ethical research conduct.
