  • Exercises for argumentation techniques
  • Simulation of discussions and debates (with video recordings)
  • Reflecting the perception of yourself and others

Learning Objectives:

The students learn to:

  • name and analyze different types of argumentation, their logical structure, and their purpose in different conversation situations and how to transfer this into practical examples.
  • outline the differences between discussing and debating.
  • explain rules for feedback and give and receive competent feedback.
  • name, identify, and analyze manipulation strategies.
  • prepare for a discussion and lead it with confidence.
  • act convincingly in a discussion.
  • reflect and adapt their communicative behavior.

 

Work Expenditure:

2 ECTS: Written reflection of your own style of argumentation.

 

Lecturer:

The PhD speech scientist and trained mediator works as a research assistant for oral communication and conflict management at the Center for Foreign Language and Occupational Competencies (ZfbK) at Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) in the department of key competencies. There, she conducts interdisciplinary and subject-specific (in various degree programs at JLU) courses on rhetoric, voice, and conflict management.
