Success comes not only from good planning, but also from consciously using our strengths and enjoying what we do. In this workshop, you will discover how to recognize your personal strengths and use them in a targeted manner to successfully implement small and large projects. With the help of scientifically sound approaches from positive psychology and a large portion of practical experience, you will learn how important the interplay of motivation, commitment and sensibly set goals is. We don’t just look at the pure achievement of goals, but also at how the journey itself becomes a successful experience, because everything you achieve counts!
This course is an EUCOR cooperation project of the Center for Key Qualifications at the University of Freiburg in conjunction with the House of Competence (HoC) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
Orientation is provided by Martin Seligman’s theory of well-being and the PERMA model derived from it (an acronym for Positive Emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and Accomplishment). The starting point for this course are the two PERMA factors E (for engagement/commitment) and A (for goal setting/achievement).
What you will take away from the workshop:
- Introduction to the theory of wellbeing (PERMA model)
- The power of your strengths: How to discover your strengths and use them in your everyday life
- Experience flow: How commitment and enthusiasm make your path easier
- Strengthening self-efficacy: Maintaining motivation and taking action
Goals that work: How do I find and set realistic and fulfilling goals?
Workload for ECTS:
2 ECTS: active participation in both workshop days, completion of self-study tasks, submission of a written reflection (approx. 2-3 pages)
Lecturer:
Katja Fimmen:
I work as an education manager at the University of Freiburg (Center for Key Qualifications). Achieving goals has always been a topic in my previous work in project management as a controller or BI consultant. Since 2020, I have been teaching together with Ms. Peterseil on the PERMA model of positive psychology with the topic “Discovering and using strengths”. Outside of work, you can find me jogging or refereeing on the soccer pitch.
Karin Peterseil:
As a sociologist, systemic coach and career guidance trainer, I work as an education manager at the University of Freiburg (Center for Key Qualifications), where I teach on the subject of personal strengths based on positive psychology. I am particularly passionate about music and people.
