The critical and responsible use of large language models (LLMs) is increasingly becoming one of the fundamental interdisciplinary skills in academic studies. Whether in research, in the writing process or when revising texts, the requirements for academic work have changed fundamentally.

This is where the lecture series comes in: Current perspectives, opportunities and challenges of AI-supported working methods in an academic context will be discussed in practical presentations. Topics include forms and levels of AI use, verification and examination formats, student usage practices, questions of good scientific practice and the responsible use of AI. The lecture invites all students to deal with the effects of AI on thinking, writing and scientific processes in order to develop an independent, critical and reflective attitude.

In this course you will learn…

  • understand and critically classify the basic functions and possible applications of large language models in academic (writing) processes.
  • use AI tools for research, writing and self-assessment appropriately and align their use with scientific criteria.
  • reflect on and analyze the use of AI-based writing and research tools with regard to academic quality and good academic practice.
  • critically assess the opportunities, risks and social impact of the use of AI in studies, science and beyond and take a well-founded position.
