This course is an introduction to individual aspects of the eight-week training program “Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction” (stress management through mindfulness). This was developed by the physician and molecular biologist Prof. Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn. The training program teaches skills for dealing with stress and other difficult situations and helps people to live more consciously and prevent burnout. It can also improve concentration and creativity. MBSR is ideologically neutral and scientifically tested for effectiveness.

The course elements include sitting and walking meditation, yoga, body awareness (“Bodyscan”), sharing experiences in the group and mindfulness exercises for everyday life. This experience-oriented learning forms the focus of the course. In addition, basic knowledge about stress mechanisms is taught.

The course includes a full day of mindfulness, which we spend mainly in silence.

Workload for ECTS:

2 ECTS: regular and active course participation, writing a short reflection report.

Lecturer:

After studying industrial engineering, Sabrina Ried initially switched to the photovoltaic industry. This was followed by a doctorate at KIT in the field of energy management and parallel further training as an MBSR trainer. In addition to her current work in the energy sector, she continues to work as a lecturer and trainer for mindfulness (MBSR). She herself practices meditation in the Vipassana tradition.
