Academic language is subject to certain rules that differ depending on the type of text and discipline. Even experienced students often often find it difficult to understand the existing guidelines and recommendations regarding academic language style and to implement them correctly in a text. In addition, there are contradictory style requirements, e.g. in institute guidelines or made by supervisors, which cause even more confusion. In this online course, you will take an in-depth look at the concept of academic language and its practical application. In addition to an introduction to theory and function, you will learn about the characteristics of academic language and will be able to apply these independently to different types of texts and disciplines after completing the course. Practical writing exercises and individual feedback on your own texts round off the course.

Please note the following information for the winter semester 2024/2025: The online course starts with an approx. 30-minute Zoom introduction on 11.11.2024 at 10:00 a.m. and can be edited flexibly thereafter. You will receive an e-mail in advance with the dial-in data in Zoom. Please also note that booking a writing consultation (face-to-face or online) is required to successfully complete the course. You will receive information on the bookable dates in the Zoom introduction on 11.11.2024
