The focus of this online course is the drafting of papers and theses. The students get the opportunity to develop a synopsis step by step for a topic of their choice. In this way, they can comprehend all steps necessary to successfully create an academic work with the help of an example.

Before the start of the seminar and for every subsequent course unit, participants receive instructions for independent research and writing exercises. The online course itself conveys standards and gives the opportunity to discuss results. Another possibility is to work in small groups and meet online or arrange a meeting with the lecturer. This applies especially to the end of the seminar which will include an example for a final reaction to an academic work.

By writing the synopsis, the students gain the following abilities:

• Formulating a meaningful and descriptive title for an academic text
• Setting a timetable
• Developing a structure
• Researching literature
• Citing according to academic standards
• Writing an academic text
• Proofreading (final editing)

Lecturer:
Dr. Axel Lange is a trained historian and has many years of experience as an editor at a business publishing house. Since 2013, he has been a staff member at the European Melanchthon Academy in Bretten. In addition to this activity, he works as a freelance author and editor.
